Lightweights Come Up Victorious for Subin Cup

LEONIA, N.J. - The Columbia lightweight rowing team earned a clean-sweep, topping Dartmouth by open-water margins in three races Sunday morning. The Lions' varsity eight victory earned them the Subin Cup.
"Overall, it was a solid weekend of racing for us," said head coach Nich Lee Parker. "We had to do some shuffling of the lineups, so there's always a bit of unknown when that happens."
"Yesterday, we were able to rise up to our level of competition against Cornell. Today, it was good for our guys to get a win over some more quality opponents."
The varsity eight and Dartmouth were neck-and-neck out of the gaates, but a surge around the 1,000-meter mark put the Lions in control. Columbia continued to pull away down the stretch and earned a seven-second victory. Mercyhurst pulled in third.
In the second and third varsity, Columbia turned on the jets right away and came up with a pair of convincing wins.
The Lions will host Drexel next Saturday, April 29, at Overpeck Park to wrap up the regular season.
