Princeton Knocks Off Men's Basketball In Ivy League Opener

Box Score

PRINCETON, N.J. - A red-hot shooting performance by Princeton lifted the Tigers to a 72-56 victory over the Columbia men's basketball team Friday night in the Lions' Ivy League debut. Princeton, who scored the first eight points of the game and led wire-to-wire, improved to 8-8 overall and 1-1 in the Ancient Eight.

Quinton Adlesh netted 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc to go with five rebounds for Columbia, who fell to 3-11 overall and 0-1 in Ivy League play. Devin Cannady continued to

The Lions missed their first six shots of the game before a Rodney Hunter pullup jumper made it 11-4 with 16:07 left in the period. Quinton Adlesh made it a four-point game less than two minutes later with a triple from the right wing before the Tigers exploded from downtown.

Princeton knocked down eight of its final 10 attempts from beyond the arc and led by as many as 20 points before taking a 41-23 cushion at the midway point of the game.

Columbia tried to force the Tigers to play faster in the second half, applying full-court pressure and trying to run in transition. However, Princeton continued to knock down shots ballooned the lead to 52-25 just over three minutes into the second half. A Mike Smith trey with 10:52 on the clock cut the deficit to 15, but that would be as close as the Lions would get.

Columbia shot a season-low 34.4 percent from the floor and was limited to 6-of-23 (26.1 percent) from long range. The Tigers finished 15-of-31 (48.4 percent) from 3-point land.

The Lions will wrap up their first of six back-to-backs Saturday, January 13 against Penn at the Palestra. The game will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Network, now available on Apple TV, Roku and the ILN app for Android and Apple devices.
