Two Pool Records Fall In Senior Day Win Over Dartmouth

NEW YORK – In the final dual-meet of the season, the Columbia women's swimming & diving team were sensational at home en route to a 175-114 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday, Feb. 3. The Lions posted a pair of Uris Pool records in its second-consecutive home win to cap the year.
Today the Lions also honored and recognized the class of 2018 who swam their last meet at Uris Pool, including Kelsey Ables, Brooke Bernardin, Chloe Hacker, Kathleen O'Rourke, Nicole Papsco, and Isabel Weiss.
Mary Ashby broke a 10-year old Uris Pool record on Saturday in the 100 freestlye with a winning time of 49.81. She bested the previous record of 50.19 set by Hannah Galey in 2008 and her own record of 50.07 in a leg of a 400 freestyle relay in January. Ashby becomes the first in program history to post a sub 50.00 time in Uris Pool.
VideoThe squad of Ashby, Susie Zhu, Jessica Antiles and Kathleen O'Rourke combined for a Uris pool record time of 1:32.38 in the 200 freestyle relay in the final event of the day. The tandem broke the previous record of 1:33.13 set in 2016.
Senior Brooke Bernardin kicked off the day with a three-meter dive victory behind tally of 285.68. Bernardin also added a runner-up finish in the one-meter dive at 269.62.
VideoAllyssa Phelps (1:51.37) led a 1-2 punch in the 200 freestyle finishing just ahead of Eva Crouse (1:52.41). Jamie Lee (57.08) and Lisa Zhang (57.22) followed suit in the 100 backstroke, while senior Nicole Papsco was impressive in both the 100 breaststroke with a winning time of 1:04.97 and 200 breaststroke in 2:20.36 . Maureen Rakovec added a 200 butterfly victory with a time of 2:07.23, with Clare MacNamara as runner up in 2:08.56.
Jessica Antiles led a 1-2-3 Columbia sweep in the 50 freestyle clocking in at 23.57. Kathleen O'Rourke placed second at 23.70 and Jessica He came in third place at 23.84. Lisa Zhang captured the crown in the 200 backstroke in 2:04.32, ahead of runner-up Jordam Ashmore (2:06.04) and Kelsey Ables (2:06.41).
The 100 butterfly went to Emily Wang in a winning time of 56.92 and Eva Crouse (2:06.65) edged Helen Wojdylo (2:07.02) for the 200 I.M. victory in the final individual event.

The Lions finish the dual-meet season at 3-5 overall and 2-5 in the Ivy League. Columbia will be back for the Ivy League Championships to be held at Harvard on Wednesday, Feb. 14 – Saturday, Feb. 17.
