New York, N.Y. — No. 2 men's squash (12-1) has a chance to do something they have never done before with a win against Princeton on Friday: Win an Ivy League title.
HERE'S THE DEAL
With a win over Princeton on Friday, the Lions will capture their first every Ivy League Championship in program history. The Lions control their own fate as they are undefeated in league play. With wins on both Friday and Sunday, the Lions will sit alone at the top of the league.
Columbia became a varsity team in the 2010-11 season and have finished as the Ivy runner up in three straight seasons. The squad got its first win in program history over the reigning Ivy League Champions, Harvard, this season,
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
The Lions have won three consecutive matches against Princeton, who sits at 8-3 on the season. Columbia has won two straight matches against Penn, including last season's 6-3 victory over the Quakers.
SENIOR NIGHT
The Lions will honor seniors Osama Khalifa, Seif Attia and Arhum Saleem on senior night. The reigning CSA College Squash National Champion, Osama Khalifa, has won back-to-back Ivy League player of the Year honors and is a three-time All-American and All-Ivy selection. He has a 50-3 regular season record with two matches to play this season.
Seif Attia has played in the No. 2-4 positions throughout his four years and has been a huge part of the Lions' recent uprising. Arhum Saleem has been productive all four years for the Lions, contributing and getting key wins in the middle of the lineup. All three seniors are captains this season.
Columbia rose up the ranks throughout their time here, as they currently sit at their highest national ranking at No. 2 in the nation, with a chance to clinch the program's first ever Ivy title on Friday.
UP NEXT
After Penn on Sunday, the Lions will have a weekend off before heading to CSA Team National Championships on February 23-25 in Cambridge.
