Softball's Bats Stifled by Loyola Marymount, 3-1

LOS ANGELES — Loyola Marymount's Hannah Bandimere held the Columbia softball team to just one run on three hits and Columbia fell in the battle of the Lions, 3-1, Wednesday afternoon at Smith Field.

Columbia (5-10) manufactured its only run of the game in the second. Senior Taylor Troutt led off with a single and the visiting Lions successfully moved her over to third with two outs for Amanda Nishihira. The sophomore catcher laced a single to left, driving in her fifth RBI of the season to put Columbia on the board first.

Loyola Marymount (12-15-1) responded with two in the bottom half off Columbia starter Madison Canby. The sophomore got the first two outs but lost Megan Martin to a walk after getting ahead 1-2. She paid the price, as Brooke Christensen homered to left to put the home Lions on top, 2-1.

Bandimere allowed just one Columbia hit the rest of the way on a double by first-year Maria Pagane to lead off the sixth. She walked two to the load the bases with two out, but got out of the inning by striking out Jordan Townsend. Bandimere (8-5) took the win, striking out seven.

Sophomore Erin Gallo relieved Canby to begin the fourth and struck out five across the final three innings of work. An unearned run came across in the fourth to increase the LMU lead to 3-1.

Columbia flies back east to begin Ivy League play this weekend at Penn. The new three-game series format get started with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is at 12:30 p.m.
