ITHACA, N.Y. – The Columbia baseball team finished the regular season with a 3-2 victory over Cornell Sunday afternoon. The Lions (18-27, 13-8) must now await the finish of the series between Dartmouth and Harvard to see if they qualify for the Ivy League Championship series. Columbia needs Harvard to win the final game of the series after the teams split a doubleheader Sunday.

Ben Wereski battled through five-plus innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits to earn the victory. Ty Wiest tossed the final four frames to pick up his second save of the year.

The Big Red (14-22-1, 9-12) opened the scoring in the third inning. With a runner on second and one out, Kyle Gallagher hit a fly ball to center to move the runner to third and the relay short-hopped the cutoff man to allow the runner to come in on the play.

After threatening in the third and fourth innings, the Lions filled the basepaths and evened things up on a walk to Liam McGill. Columbia took the lead in the sixth on a Matt Cerfolio triple and a bloop single from Julian Bury.

In the top of the ninth, McGill's sacrifice fly drove in another key run because Cornell threatened again in the ninth. Pierre Le Dorze led the frame off with a double that a diving Cerfolio got a glove on and ricocheted off his body. Wiest induced a pop up and ground out before Ryan Krainz dropped in a base hit to make it a one-run ballgame. However, a pop up to second closed out the contest.
