NEW YORK—Columbia University and Columbia Athletics celebrated the Commencement of its 264th academic year on Wednesday, May 16 on the Morningside Heights Campus in the City of New York.
The Columbia Athletics Class of 2018 was comprised of 179 student-athletes, who were responsible for delivering a total of five team national championships (2015 NCAA Fencing, 2016 NCAA Fencing, 2016 Men's Lightweight Rowing, 2017 Archery Recurve Division, 2017 Archery Compound Division), one individual national title (2017, Osama Khalifa, men's squash), 17 team Ivy League Championships and 17 individual Ivy League titles to Columbia Athletics. Additionally, the Class of 2018 features one Olympian, 13 student-athletes who earned All-America honors, five garnered an Ivy League Player of the Year award, 39 athletes earned All-Ivy League honors at least one time in their career, two earned Academic All-America honors and 17 were named to the Academic All-Ivy League Team.
"This group is truly remarkable with how they have represented Columbia in athletics, in the classroom and in the community,” Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Peter Pilling said. "On behalf of our coaches, administrators and support staff, congratulations to the Class of 2018!"
Columbia student-athletes earned a variety of on-campus awards over the last few days. Ten senior student-athletes received Latin Honors by Columbia College, four were named to the Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society and Matt Karo earned Tau Beta Pi Honor Society status from the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
