Columbia Meets Up With St. John's Wednesday

OPENING TIP-OFF
• Columbia and St. John's will meet up Wednesday as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament campus site games.
• The Lions are coming off a 60-42 defeat to defending NCAA Champions and No. 9 Virginia on Saturday in the opening game of the event. Columbia's point total was the most scored against the stingy Cavaliers' defense on the year and the Lions' 25-point output in the second half was also a season-high allowed by UVA.
• Mike Smith led all scorers with 16 points Saturday. Smith checks in at No. 2 in the Ivy League in scoring (20.0 PPG) and is tied for the Ancient Eight lead in assists (4.8).

ST. JOHN'S STATUS
The Red Storm fell to Vermont, 70-68, in its opening game of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament Sunday. St. John's erased a 10-point deficit, but Anthony Lamb sank a game-winning jumper with two seconds left to give the Catamounts the win. LJ Figeuroa and Mustapha Heron are each averaging 18.5 points. Josh Roberts is posting 8.5 boards and 4.5 blocks per game.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Columbia and St. John's will meet for the 26th time Wednesday, dating back to the 1916-17 season. The squads have not met since Dec. 28, 2013 at Barclays Center when the Red Storm topped the Lions, 65-59. It has been just over a decade since Columbia's last appearance at Carnesecca Arena, 79-66 St. John's win on Nov. 17, 2010. St. John's has won 13-straight in the series, dating back to the 1979-80 season.
COLUMBIA VS. THE BIG EAST
Columbia is 27-46 against teams currently in the BIG EAST. The Lions have not played a BIG EAST opponent since Nov. 10, 2017, a 75-60 loss to Villanova. The Lions last win against a team in the conference came when they knocked off Villanova on the road, 75-57, on Nov. 20, 2012. St. John's is Columbia's most common foe within the BIG EAST.
ABOUT THE HALL OF FAME TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT
The Basketball Hall of Fame hosts the annual Tip-Off Tournament each November. The Tip-Off Tournament is an NCAA exempt men's basketball tournament sponsored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Each year, top teams and conferences will compete in the Basketball Hall of Fame's event showcasing its talents in New England's only exempt Division I college basketball tournament. The original Tip-Off was held in Springfield for more than 25 years. The format has changed, but the name has remained the same.
