NEW YORK-Columbia fencing returns home to campus to host NYU, Vassar and Sacred Heart for the George Kolombatovich Historical Meet at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The meet will not only be the last home competition before NCAA regionals on March 10, but the program will also celebrate the senior fencers on the team.
Last weekend, the Lions won the men's and women's Ivy League fencing championship outright for the first time since 2008. Both squads went undefeated throughout the round-robin style tournament.
This year, this meet has been renamed to honor late Columbia fencing coach George Kolombatovich, as he passed away last September in Florida. Kolombatovich retired in 2011 after 32 seasons and five national championship wins.
