The Lions make quick work of the Quakers in the first round of the Howe Cup consolation bracket Saturday.
HARTFORD, CONN.- Columbia women's squash came out victorious Saturday against No. 6 Penn, 6-3, in the first round of the Howe Cup consolation bracket. This was the second meeting of the season between the two Ivy League programs. The Lions lost to the Quakers earlier this month, 5-4, in the last match of the regular season. Columbia was able to rebound this morning after falling to Princeton yesterday, 7-2, in the first round of the CSA Team Championships.
Habiba Mohamed, competing in the second spot on the ladder, found success over Penn's Jessica Davis, with a 3-1 win. Nicole Kendall also tabbed another hard-fought 3-2 victory for the Lions in position No. 3, 5-11, 11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 6-11.
In the lower portion of the ladder, Jane Pincus was victorious in position No. 5 against Lindsay Stanley 3-2. In position No. 6, Doria Chen made quick work of Clare Kearns 3-1,, Julia Masch powered through a 3-2 match up to top Micole Widrich, and Diana Masch closed out for the Lions in position No. 9 with a 3-0 win over Margaret Frantz.
The Lions return to the court tomorrow for a 2 p.m. match against No. 3 Yale in the CSA Howe Cup Consolation Finals. Yale defeated Columbia during the regular season 7-2. Earlier today, Yale blanked Drexel 9-0 in the first round of the consolidation bracket after falling to Stanford 5-4 on Friday.
