No. 16 Lions Stay Unbeaten in Ivy Matches with 5-2 Win at Princeton

Columbia moves to 3-0 in Ivy League matches after defeating the Tigers in Princeton on Friday

PRINCETON, N.J. — After giving up the doubles point for the second-consecutive match, the No. 16 Columbia men's tennis team used some gritty singles performances to pull past Princeton, 5-2, and remain undefeated in Ivy League contests at the Lenz Tennis Center in Princeton, New Jersey, on Friday afternoon.

The Lions improve to 13-3 overall with a 3-0 mark in Ivy matches, while Princeton falls to 18-8, 2-2 in conference play.

Doubles action was highly competitive, with two of the three matches needing a tiebreaker to decide. The Tigers struck first as Adam Ambrozy/Austen Huang fell 7-6 (4) on the bottom court. Columbia took one back as Rian Pandole/Victor Pham combined to take a 7-5 decision on court two. Princeton clinched the early lead as No. 26 Jack Lin/William Matheson fell to 17^th-ranked Payton Holden/Ryan Seggerman.

It was Ambrozy who evened the score at one, winning in straight sets on court three. The Tigers once again went out in front as Pandole fell, 7-5, 6-2 on court four, but Columbia would go on to claim four-straight victories and seal the team triumph.

Pham knotted the score back up at two after claiming a 7-6, 6-2 victory on the top court over 97th-ranked Karl Poling. Fellow senior Timothy Wang gave the Lions their first lead of the day, grabbing a 6-1, 7-6 win at No. 5 singles. Huang clinched the team victory, winning in three sets on court six.

Lin tacked on the extra point, winning a 10-point superset on court two.

Columbia returns home Sunday, April 14, as the Penn Quakers visit the Dick Savitt Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET.
