Eight Student-Athletes Earn Awards at CU Leadership & Excellence Awards Ceremony

Earning awards at the annual event included football player Mike Hinton ‘19CC, women’s soccer player Carlisle Topping ‘19CC, women’s track and field athlete Maryam Hassan ‘20CC, football player Patrick Eby ‘19CC, field hockey goalkeeper Kathleen Dempsey ‘19CC, women’s rower Hope Weisman ‘21CC, women’s soccer player Rachel Alexander ‘19CC and archer Bianca Gotuaco ‘19CC.
NEW YORK—Eight Columbia student-athletes were recognized with awards at the 2019 Columbia University Leadership and Excellence Awards held Tuesday evening in Low Memorial Library.
Eight Columbia senior student-athletes earned awards at the annual event including football player Mike Hinton '19CC, women's soccer player Carlisle Topping '19CC, women's track and field athlete Maryam Hassan '20CC, football player Patrick Eby '19CC, field hockey goalkeeper Kathleen Dempsey '19CC, women's rower Hope Weisman '21CC, women's soccer player Rachel Alexander '19CC and archer Bianca Gotuaco '19CC.
The annual awards recognize the significant contributions of Columbia College and Columbia Engineering students to the Columbia community. Awards presented included the King's Crown Leadership Excellence Awards which were presented to individuals in eight different categories: civic responsibility, innovation and enhancement, inclusion and advocacy, Columbia spirit, health and wellness, community building, indelible mark, and principled action. Up to 10 individuals may be recognized within each category. In addition, Senior Marshals were also recognized.
These prestigious awards are presented not only to student-athletes, but to any Columbia College or Engineering student who is selected from those nominated.
Columbia Athletics had a strong turnout from athletics coaches, administrators, and student-athletes at the awards ceremony. Also in attendance were administrators, faculty, and students from across the University (including several Deans).
