NEW YORK—Columbia's offensive line has been a key to the program's success on offense. Last year, Columbia's offensive line helped Lions passing game average 306.3 yards of offense per game, 16.6 first downs per game, a 57.6 completion percentage and 1,092 rushing yards on the year. Most importantly, the Lions yielded just 19 sacks on the year, a mark that tied for the second-fewest opponent sacks in school history.

Departed from that offensive line are two key players in three-year starter Tyler Schonewolf and two-year starter/captain Markham Paukune. Five seniors return to lead the Columbia offensive line unit in 2019: Parker Coogan, Joe Scowden, Isaac Werkman, Lamine Nouck-A-Nwal, and Drew Schoeberl.

"We are very fortunate to have great leadership on the offensive line," Offensive Line Coach Jon McLaughlin said. "We have a mature group, not necessarily in eligibility or class, but just a bunch of guys who've contributed and been around the program and stayed here this summer. Even some our younger players have matured. We have as deep of a meeting room as I've ever coached and a bunch of guys who are ready and willing to step up in whatever role we need."

Leading the group is senior, All-Ivy League honorable mention selection and two-year starter Parker Coogan. At 6-feet-2 inches and 300 pounds, Coogan has started the last 20 consecutive games at two different positions: center and guard. Last year he moved to center and will assume that role again in 2019. Coogan, who has played in 22 career games, was named a preseason Second Team All-Ivy League by Phil Steele Magazine.

Scowden enters his senior year after seeing action in 16 career games with seven starts. A 6-foot-4, 290-pounder, Scowden has started the last seven games at left guard while battling injuries. The best is yet to come for Scowden heading into his final season.

A 6-foot-6, 300-pound tackle, Werkman has played in 11 career games with 10 starts. A 6-foot-5, 290-pounder, Schoeberl has played in seven career games, mostly at left guard.

Backing the seniors up are a group of experienced juniors including Josh Kaminski, Seth DeVary, Jon Rowe, Peter Wise and Hank White. Kaminski (6-4, 295) saw action in 10 games last year and made seven starts at left tackle. Rowe (6-2, 295), and White (6-5, 285) both saw extensive action on the offensive line and on special teams last year.

Sophomores Stew Newblatt, Tyler Worrell, Zach Minch, Jake Motz, Conner Collins will also see action. Newblatt (6-3, 290) played in all 10 games last year at both center and guard.

Newcomers to the group include Buffalo transfer Matt Klenk, Richmond transfer Zach Doherty, along with first-years Will Hamilton, Andrew Pruske and David Sawyer.
