PRINCETON, N.J. — In Columbia women's swimming and diving team fell to No. 22 Princeton, 210-87, at DeNunzio Pool on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions fall to 3-3 on the season, while Princeton improves to 7-1, 5-0 Ivy League.
"The talent pool that the Tigers have was more than we could handle today, but it was exciting to see Olivia Jubin take advantage of a great facility and excellent competitors to set two personal bests," said Columbia head coach Diana Caskey after the meet. "We are excited to honor our seniors and finish off the dual meet season against Dartmouth next Saturday."
First-year Olivia Jubin was a highlight for the Lions, registering a pair of wins in both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle. The 200 free saw Jubin clock a personal-best time of 1:47.79, to out-touch Princeton's Sarah Grinalds (1:48.27). In the 500 free, Jubin went 4:50.71, more than five seconds faster than the Tigers' second-place finisher.
Junior Emily Wang added another win for Columbia in the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 55.25 ahead of Princeton's Elaine Zhou (55.45).
The Lions also had a handful of second-place finishes, including Julia Samson in both the 100 backstroke (55.49) and 200 backstroke (2:02.25), Helen Wojdylo in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.95), Karen Liu in the 200 breast (2:16.82), Jubin in the 100 IM (56.26), and Columbia's 'A' team in the 200 free relay (1:34.99).
In a tough diving field, first-year Livy Poulin earned the Lions' highest finishes on both diving events, including a fourth-place showing on the 1-meter (284.18) and fifth in the 3-meter (271.88).
"There was a lot of great diving on both sides today and I'm proud of our women," said Columbia diving coach Scott Donie. "It was one of those days where Princeton had one of their best days. I give all the credit to them and their program."
The Lions return home for their regular season finale next Saturday, Feb. 1, to go up against the Dartmouth Big Green. The meet will serve as Senior Day for Columbia's eight seniors: Scottie Berridge, Elisa Fang, Isabelle Jubin, Clare MacNamara, Audrey Richter, Julia Samson, Helen Wojdylo and Lisa Zhang.
