Justin Ghaeli each claimed individual wins, but it was not enough as the No. 11 ranked Columbia men's squash team dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 8 Virginia Sunday at McArthur Squash Center.
The loss drops Columbia to 5-6 on the year, while Virginia improves to 11-3 overall.
Virginia went up 2-0 with victories at No. 1 and No. 8 before the Lions got on the board with Shah's 11-7, 11-6 11-9 win at No. 5 over Virginia's Peter Miller.
The Cavaliers then won the next three matches at No. 4, No. 2 and No. 7 to clinch the team victory.
Ghaeli followed with an 11-3, 10-12, 11-7, 11-8 win at No. 6 over Virginia's Glenn Yates and Mann won a come-from-behind 7-11, 5-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-6 decision at No. 3 over Virginia's Will Holey.
Columbia gets back into action next weekend when it travels to the University of Rochester for a 4 p.m. matchup on Friday, Jan. 31 before returning to New York to host Dartmouth on Sunday, Feb. 2 at noon at SL Green StreetSquash.
