NEW YORK — The Columbia men's basketball team concluded non-conference play with an 86-56 rout of Mount Saint Vincent Thursday evening. The Lions (5-11) had four players in double-figures led by a career-high 20 points from first-year
Jack Forrest.
Mike Smith chipped in 14 points to go with five assists.
Jake Killingsworth added 13 points and
Tai Bibbs had 10.
Randy Brumant led all players with 11 boards and Columbia held a 51-38 edge on the glass.
"It was nice getting some of our key guys back on the floor tonight," said head coach
Jim Engles. "Especially
Jack Forrest. For him to get some confidence is a big deal for him and our team. We also had guys like
Joseph Smoyer step up and played within the concepts of what we want to do. I thought we gained some confidence offensively and were able to make some adjustments that we'll continue to work on going forward."
Smith drained a pair of free throws to give the Lions an early 7-0 lead just over three minutes in and the Lions, who led wire-to-wire, never looked back. An 11-0 run made it 21-4 at the 8:22 mark of the first and Columbia marched into the break, leading by 41-20.
Forrest canned two of his five triples in the first five minutes of the second to put the Lions on top by 22. The Lions earned the luxury of emptying the bench near the midway point of the half and
Asa Shannon put the finishing touches on the victory with a slam dunk from the right baseline to make it 82-43 with 4:56 on the clock.
Smoyer recorded four of the Lions' nine blocks on the evening. Raiquis Harris led the Dolphins with 13 points.
The Lions begin Ivy League play on Saturday, January 18 against Cornell for a 7 p.m. contest. Tickets are available by visiting
