PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Penn's AJ Brodeur recorded a triple-double to lead the Quakers to an 85-65 win over the Columbia men's basketball team Saturday night.
Mike Smith's pursuit of the Lions' single-season scoring record came up 11 points short, but the senior did finish with 20 points, four rebounds and four steals in his final game in a Columbia uniform.
Brodeur led all scorers with 21 points, on his way to setting the Quakers' all-time scoring record, and grabbed 10 rebounds to go with 10 assists. He also rejected four shots.
Ike Nweke registered 13 points and five rebounds, while
Randy Brumant chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks. First-year
Jack Forrest, playing in his home city, added 13 points off the bench.
The Lions were able to slow down the Quakers early and took an 18-10 lead on a short jumper from Brumant with 11:41 left in the first period. However, Penn eventually found its groove and used a 12-2 run to grab a 27-22 advantage, capped by a Jordan Dingle 3-pointer with 6:13 remaining in the frame.
Killingsworth and Smith teamed up for back-to-back buckets to close the gap to one before the Quakers outscored Columbia 14-4 over the final 5:06 to hold a 40-30 lead at intermission.
Penn started the second half on an 8-2 spurt and led by as many as 25 with 11:42 remaining in regulation.
The Quakers (16-11, 8-6) shot 56.9 percent from the floor and knocked down 13-of-28 (46.4 percent) from beyond the arc.
The Lions completed the 2019-20 season 6-24 and 1-13 in Ivy League play.
