No. 9 Columbia Blanks FAU, 7-0

The Lions went undefeated on Saturday afternoon against Florida Atlantic

NEW YORK — After playing its last five matches in the Midwest, the No. 9 Columbia men's tennis team returned to the friendly confines of the Dick Savitt Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon, earning a 7-0 sweep over Florida Atlantic.

The win moves Columbia to 7-3 on the season, while FAU drops to 5-11 overall.

Taking a quick 1-0 lead by way of doubles victories on courts two and three, Columbia picked up the early advantage for the first time since defeating Baylor on Feb. 16. Once again using an adjusted lineup, the Lions duo of Jackie Tang/Rian Pandole got things going with a 6-4 triumph on court three before Adam Ambrozy/Alex Kotzen won 6-3 on the middle court.

Doubling the team lead, No. 23 Jack Lin made quick work at No. 1 singles, blanking Jason Legall, 6-0, 6-0. Pandole extended the Lions' advantage, topping Yovan Lambros, 6-3, 6-0, and junior Austen Huang clinched the team triumph with a 7-5, 6-0 result on court six. Huang remains undefeated in dual match play with an unblemished 9-0 singles record.

Finishing out the remaining courts, No. 100 Tang came back after dropping the first set to win, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-3). First-year Kotzen came up with a three-set victory on court four, and Ambrozy powered through to win 7-5, 6-7 (3), 1-0 (10-7) at No. 5 singles.

Next weekend, the Lions begin a seven-match road stretch starting at No. 3 Texas on Saturday, March 14. The Longhorns are one of four teams Columbia will face in the Lone Star State that week, also going up against No. 27 Baylor, SMU and No. 8 TCU.
