Columbia Hosts Binghamton Wednesday

The Lions will continue its homestand Wednesday night when they welcome the Bearcats to Schiller Court

NEW YORK - The Columbia men's basketball team is back at home to take on Binghamton on Wednesday, November 17 at 7 p.m. The Lions (0-2) are still in search of their first win of the season, while the Bearcats (1-1) are coming off a road win at Sacred Heart.

OPENING TIP-OFF

• Columbia continues its three-game home stand Wednesday night against Binghamton.

• The Lions are coming off an 82-67 defeat to Marist Friday night that saw the Red Foxes shoot 58.7 percent from the floor and 52.2 percent from 3-point range.

• First-year Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa is currently leading the Ivy League, dishing out 4.5 assists per game through the first two contests of the year.

BINGHAMTON'S STATUS
The Bearcats picked up a 72-60 victory at Sacred Heart Sunday to even their record at 1-1. Binghamton fell to Cornell at home on November 9 to open its 2021-22 campaign. Kellen Amos has had the early hot-hand for the Bearcats, averaging  16.5 points on 6-of-14 shooting from beyond the arc. Ogheneyole Akuwovo paces the squad, posting 7.5 rebounds per game.

INSIDE THE SERIES 
Wednesday will be just the fifth meeting between Columbia and Binghamton with the Lions holding a 3-1 edge in the series. The Lions took the last meeting, 75-63, on Nov. 13, 2019. Mike Smith led five players in double-figures with 19 points and nine assists. Columbia knocked down 11 3-pointers, while holding the Bearcats to 7-of-23 shooting from downtown.

COLUMBIA AGAINST THE AMERICA EAST
The Lions are 19-23 against teams currently in the America East Conference. Columbia's most common foe is Stony Brook, who it has faced 20 times.  The Lions have three more opponents from the conference on tap this season (UMBC, UAlbany, Maine) in December. In 2019-20, Columbia went 1-2 against the America East with its win over Binghamton and losses to the Great Danes and Black Bears.

ALL OUR CHILDREN
After losing over 80-percent of its scoring from 2019-20, Columbia's rookies are comprising 83.5-percent of its points this season. Liam Murphy currently leads the squad, netting 14.0 points per game, while Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa is chipping in 10.5 points.

NWEKE OUT
Senior forward Ike Nweke was injured in Columbia's season opener at Fordham on November 9. He is considered week-to-week.
