Photo features 33 student-athletes on campus after year-long pandemic hiatus.
NEW YORK— Columbia released the newest version of the athletics program's #OnlyHere 31-Sport Photo on Monday afternoon.
"We are thrilled to display the breadth and diversity of our athletics program through our 31-sport photo, which has become an important tradition at Columbia" Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Physical Education Peter Pilling said. "Gathering members of all of our 31 varsity teams together on campus for the first time since the global pandemic sends a strong message that we are 'roaring' back into action, and towards normalcy in our lives and day-to-day operations."
The photograph, conceived and shot by Columbia Athletics' long-time photographer Mike McLaughlin (IG: @mikemclaughlinphotography), features members of each of Columbia's 31 varsity teams in uniform, posed in Revson Plaza (the pedestrian bridge over Amsterdam Avenue) on Columbia's Morningside Heights Campus.
Shooting downtown, the photograph captures the traditional architecture of the McKim, Mead and White-designed Columbia campus, including Kent Hall and Hamilton Hall on the right, with the modern Jerome Greene Hall (Columbia Law School) on the left. The lights of the midtown New York City skyline at Hudson Yards is visible behind the student-athletes.
This photograph marks the fourth edition of the Columbia Athletics 31-sport photo. The previous edition of the image was taken in Times Square in 2018. Earlier editions were shot in Hoboken, New Jersey overlooking the financial district skyline and on the steps of Low Memorial Library, surrounding Daniel Chester French's Alma Mater statue.
