Sixth-Ranked Lions Host Two Top 10 Opponents This Weekend

Men’s squash looking to build on 3-0 start
NEW YORK — The sixth-ranked Columbia men's squash team (3-0) hosts a pair of top 10 opponents this weekend at the SL Green StreetSquash Center. Action begins Friday at 4 p.m. against No. 5 Drexel (5-1). Columbia will then host its first Ivy League match of the season on Sunday against No. 9 Cornell (1-1) at 12 noon.

FAN POLICIES:
Attendance is limited for the 2021-22 season at the SL Green StreetSquash Center. For consideration to join the Columbia Squash team pass list for each home event, please contact Joanne Schickerling at js4411@columbia.edu 24 hours prior to the contest. Only people on the pass list will be allowed access into the venue.
The Lions are 3-0 to start the year for the third time in the last four seasons. They began the campaign on Nov. 13 with a 9-0 sweep of No. 12 Western Ontario. The following day, Columbia outlasted No. 7 Virginia in a tight one, 6-3. The team is returning home after a successful first road trip the Sunday before Thanksgiving, traveling to Lancaster, Pennsylvania and defeating No. 16 Franklin & Marshall, 6-3.
DEBUTS:
To this point in the season, seven different Lions have made their collegiate playing debuts. On opening weekend, Harold Castiaux, Adam Goad, Jacob Bulbulia, Ryan Chen and Zach Nam competed at Nos. 5-9, respectively. All five of them were victorious in the 9-0 sweep of Western Ontario, and all five of them were victorious, again, in Sunday's 6-3 win over Virginia.
The following weekend, Gabriel Yun and Gonzalo de la Mora made their first collegiate starts against Franklin & Marshall. de la Mora was victorious on the No. 9 in three games.
TOP COURT:
Two different Lions have competed in the No. 1 match this season. On opening weekend, it was Velavan Senthilkumar taking the honors. He defeated Elliott Hunt of Western Ontario, 11-6 11-3, 11-1 in the season opener. The next day against UVA, Senthilkumar fought hard but lost in three competitive games to Aly Hussein, 7-11. 5-11, 7-11. The following week against the 16th-ranked Diplomats, it was Harold Castiaux who played the top match for the first time. He took his opponent, Petr Nohel, down to the wire, but was defeated in five games, 11-6, 3-11, 11-8, 9-11, 9-11.

- All spectators will be given a wristband once vaccination is checked
- Masks are required indoors at all times.
- Disposable masks & fabric masks are acceptable.
- No neck gaiters, buffs, or masks with valves will be permitted.
- Spectators are permitted to leave the venue and return. All spectators will be required to present proof of vaccination upon re-entry.
