No. 6 Columbia Women’s Squash Set for Two Top 10 Tests This Weekend

Lions open Ivy schedule against No. 8 Cornell on Sunday
NEW YORK — The No. 6 Columbia women's squash team (0-1) will host two matches against top 10 opponents this weekend at the SL Green StreetSquash Center. The Lions begin the weekend late Friday afternoon against No. 7 Drexel (7-0) at 4 p.m. Sunday, they'll open their Ivy League schedule against No. 8 Cornell (2-1) at 12 noon.

FAN POLICIES:
Attendance is limited for the 2021-22 season at the SL Green StreetSquash Center. For consideration to join the Columbia Squash team pass list for each home event, please contact Joanne Schickerling at js4411@columbia.edu 24 hours prior to the contest. Only people on the pass list will be allowed access into the venue.
Columbia has played just one other match so far this season, falling in a close one to then-No. 9 Virginia, 5-4, back on Nov. 14. The Lions got wins from sophomore Farida Mohamed, first-year Simmi Chan, senior Habiba Mohamed and junior Bunny Fox. Three of the wins came at Nos. 1-3 in the lineup, with Farida Mohamed winning the top match, Chan winning at No. 2 and Habiba Mohamed winning at No. 3.
DEBUTS:
Four Lions made their collegiate debuts against Virginia. Two of those debuts came from Lions competing in the top two matches, as sophomore Farida Mohamed swept her match at the No. 1, 11-5, 11-5, 11-5, and first-year Simmi Chan also swept her match at the No. 2, 11-7, 11-8, 11-4.
Though they fought hard, first-year Sarah Cao and sophomore Jannia Singh were not so fortunate in their debuts. Cao lost in four close games, 10-12, 7-11, 11-9, 8-11.
SISTER-SISTER:
This year's team includes sisters Habiba and Farida Mohamed. Habiba, a senior, was a 2020 CSA First Team All-American and 2020 First Team All-Ivy League selection, posting a record of 10-8 as a junior, including 9-7 at the No. 1. Her sister, Farida, joined the team in 2020 and is in her first season competing for the Lions. Prior to Columbia, she finished third at the 2019 Individual World Juniors and finished first at the 2019 Team World Juniors.

- An official immunization record from outside NYC or the US.
- NYC Vaccination Record
- CDC Vaccination Card (or photo)
- Excelsior Pass
- NYC COVID Safe App
- All spectators will be given a wristband once vaccination is checked
- Masks are required indoors at all times.
- Disposable masks & fabric masks are acceptable.
- No neck gaiters, buffs, or masks with valves will be permitted.
- Spectators are permitted to leave the venue and return. All spectators will be required to present proof of vaccination upon re-entry.
