Fall Academic All-Ivy League Selections Announced

Seven Lions earn Fall Academic All-Ivy League honors: Tyler Berg (men’s cross country), Allie Hays (women’s cross country), Helen Sayegh (field hockey), Ben Mathiasmeier (football), Will Todd (men’s soccer), Sam Slusher (women’s soccer), and Audrey Cheng (volleyball).
PRINCETON, N.J.—Seven Columbia University student-athletes were named to the 2020 Fall Academic All-Ivy League Team, league officials announced on Wednesday.
Earning Fall Academic All-Ivy League honors for Columbia were Tyler Berg (men's cross country), Allie Hays (women's cross country), Helen Sayegh (field hockey), Ben Mathiasmeier (football), Will Todd (men's soccer), Sam Slusher (women's soccer), and Audrey Cheng (volleyball).
Hays earned the honor for the fourth time in her career, while Mathiasmeier garnered his second honor.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Ivy League squad, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing at the institution, the student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve on his or her team, and the student-athlete cannot be a first-year. One individual is selected for each varsity sports team at each Ivy League school.

As a first-year, named First Team All-Ivy League in cross country in fall 2019 ... Locked up best finish by a first-year in program history at the Ivy League Cross Country Heps with a fourth-place finish in the 5-Mile Run with a personal-best time of 24:46.4 ... Was Columbia's second-highest finisher in the 8K at the Roy Griak Invitational ... Won the IC4A Cross Country Championships with a winning-time of 24:52.0 in the 5M ... Set a personal record in the 8K with a 24:37.7 time at the Nuttycombe Invitational.

2019 Second Team Outdoor NCAA All-American (5,000-meter) ... Five-time All-Ivy League selection ... Two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team member (2018, 2019) ... BEN MATHIASMEIER | Senior | Katy, Texas | Major: Economics
Two-time Academic All-Ivy League team honoree … Columbia's nominee for the prestigious William V. Campbell Trophy ... Honorable mention All-Ivy League selection as a junior in 2019 ... 2019 Fall Academic All-ivy League selection … Played in all 30 career games with 13 starts as a strong safety...Career stats: 97 career tackles (58 solo) with three interceptions, 3.5 tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries ... Named team Most Valuable Defensive Player in 2019...In 2019, led Lions in tackles (67), solo tackles (43) and interceptions (two).
MEN'S SOCCER
WILL TODD | Junior | Maroubra, Australia | Major: Political Science
Defender who has played in 31 and started 30 career games … As a sophomore, played and started 1ll 17 games with a team-high 1,505 minutes, helping the Lions to three shutouts … Started and has taken part in seven shutouts in his career … Registered eight career shots, five on goal, including a career-high six shots in 2019.

SAM SLUSHER | Senior | Portland, Oregon | Major: Economics
Team captain as a senior for 2020 season … As a defender, has seen action in 20 career games … Played in four contests as a junior, 12 as a sophomore, and four as a first-year.

AUDREY CHENG | Senior | Superior, Colo./Major: Computer Science
Earned 2019 Honorable Mention All-Ivy League honors ... Over three-year career, started 43 out of 70 matches played at setter ... Career stats: 2254 assists, 211 kills, 23 service aces, 566 digs, and 114 total blocks ... Ranks third all-time in Columbia history in assists (2254) ... As a junior in 2019, started 22 of 24 matches, led Lions in assists (873) and averaged 9.59 assists per set, and registered 229 digs (2.52 digs per set) ... The 873 assists were the third-most in a single-season in Columbia history.
