John Tanguay '20CC Takes Home Silver At The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

Tanguay becomes the first Columbian rowing alumni to take home an Olympic medal.
TOKYO — With a time of 7:20.13 John Tanguay '20CC and his USRowing PR3 Mixed Coxed Four crew took home the silver medal in the Final A race, which took place on Aug. 29, at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, becoming the first Columbian to win an Olympic medal in rowing.
Tanguay's crew finished seven seconds ahead of the third-place finishing boat from France, and had control of the silver medal from the time the race began. Rowing stroke, Tanguay and his crew hit splits of 1:45.87 (500m); 3:36.43 (1,000m) and 5:28.48 (1500m) en route to the silver, which for the Team USA PR3 Mixed Cox/4 boat was the seventh consecutive silver won at a world championship or Paralympic Games.
With the medal, Tanguay, who was making his Paralympic debut, becomes the first Columbian to win an Olympic medal since Katie Meilli (Swimming & Diving) took home a gold (4x100m relay) and bronze (100m breaststroke) at the Rio de Janerio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Overall, Tanguay's Olympic medal is the 16th won by Columbian alumni and he becomes the 13th Columbian to bring home a medal.
