ARMY HOSTS THE WEEKEND: Columbia is taking part in the Black Knights Invitational, where they will be joining the hosting Army Black Knights, High Point and Sacred Heart. The Lions will play the one match on Friday, Sept. 3 against High Point, before returning to action the next day, Saturday, Sept. 4, where they will take on Sacred Heart and Army.
WELCOME BACK LIONS: 657 days is a long time, but those days are in the past and Columbia is finally ready to get back to action. What bodes well for the Lions, is that they enter their 2021 season opener ridding a one game winning streak.
The last match Columbia played was on Nov. 16, 2019, and that was a memorable one, as Columbia battled back on the road to take a five-set comeback at Harvard to put a bow on the season. They ended the 2019 season 12-12 (5-9 IVY), but much like the 2021 season the Lions opened that season in a neutral match (St. John's), where they took down Howard in five sets to get that season off and running.
HIGH POINT MATCHUP: This will be the first matchup all-time between Columbia and High Point. The Panthers enter the weekend having won their previous two matches and carry a 2-1 record.
SACRED HEART MATCHUP: The last time Columbia and Sacred Heart met was in Levien Gym on Nov. 8, 2011. That match ended in a 3-0 win for Sacred Heart and Sacred Heart has won the previous two meetings, but all-time Columbia owns a 3-2 record against the Pioneers. Much like High Point, Sacred Heart enters the weekend with a two-match winning streak and a 2-1 overall record.
ARMY MATCHUP: For the first time since 2008, Columbia and Army will meet in West Point, but it's not the last time they faced each other, as on Sept. 19, 2015, the Black Knights beat the Lions, 3-0, in Stony Brook, New York. The last time Columbia beat Army was on Dec. 17, 2000, a 3-0 win at home, and the last win in West Point for the Lions came on Nov. 7, 1997 (3-1).
The Black Knights come into the weekend having hosted a trio of schools over the weekend of Aug. 27-28, winning all three matches to open the season 3-0. Wins for Army came over Providence, Merrimack and Iona.

RETURNING LIONS: While the squad looks a bit different than it did at the end of the 2019 season, there are still plenty of familiar faces still wearing the Columbia blue. Including seniors Emily Teehan (477 career kills); Shari Stenglein and Isa Lamus. Joining Columbia's trio of seniors are Vanessa Pan (Jr.); Soah Franklin (So.); Kiara Robichaud (Jr.); Pierce Woodall (Jr.) and Noelle Foster (Jr.) all of whom saw solid action during the 2019 season.Comeback wins at Harvard sure are 𝙈𝙊𝙏𝙄𝙑𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙉𝙂. 😎

TEEHAN WEARS RED: Senior outside hitter Emily Teehan was busy during the second half of 2020, as she spent time training in the Volleyball Canada's Women's Full-time Training Centre program at the Richmond Olympic Oval. The program provided Teehan and her fellow Canadian athletes a chance to train with the Canadian National Team and it gave them technical and tactical training.
