PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia men's basketball's Ike Nweke earned Ivy League Player of the Week accolades after averaging 21.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in a pair of conference games over the weekend. Nweke becomes the first Lion to earn the honor since Patrick Tapé on March 4, 2019.
Nweke erupted for a career-high 22 points to go with five boards Friday night at Princeton. The senior forward followed that up with a 21-point, 15-rebound effort in a win over Penn Saturday – Nweke's third career double-double. In two games, Nweke went 20-of-33 from the floor (.606) and helped Columbia earn its first road win in nearly three calendar years.
Junior forward Patrick Harding was selected for the Weekly Honor Roll after a pair of dominant games on the glass. The transfer from Bryant grabbed 11 Friday night against the Tigers and followed that up with a personal-best 21 at Penn. Harding and Nweke's 36 combined rebounds were more than the Quakers entire team (31). Harding is currently second in the conference, averaging 8.4 boards per game.
The Lions return to Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium on Saturday, January 15 when they take on Harvard for a 2 p.m. contest. Due to the substantial increase in the number of COVID-19 cases being reported in New York City, New York State, and the Columbia University campus community, Columbia University is implementing a temporary no-spectator attendance policy for its home athletics events through January 18. More information can be found here. Fans can watch the game live on ESPN+.
