No. 6 Columbia Hosts No. 4 Trinity, No. 5 Yale in Big Men’s Squash Weekend

Lions set to battle Bantams and Bulldogs for CSA positioning
NEW YORK — Three teams all side-by-side in the College Squash Association men's team rankings will all compete at the SL Green StreetSquash Center this weekend, as No. 6 Columbia (6-1) takes on No. 4 Trinity (5-0) Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by No. 5 Yale (4-0) on Sunday at 12 noon.

TEMPORARY NO-SPECTATOR POLICY
Due to the substantial increase in the number of COVID-19 cases being reported in New York City, New York State, and the Columbia University campus community, Columbia University is implementing a temporary no-spectator attendance policy for its home athletics events through January 18. Attendance to all events shall be limited to participating players, coaches, and officials, as well as athletics administrators and essential personnel required to conduct an NCAA Division I contest.
THE LATEST
After falling to Cornell in their Ivy League opener back on Dec. 5, Columbia has gone on to win each of its last two matches in dominant fashion. The Lions visited Williams college before breaking for finals and took care of the Ephs, 9-0. Earlier this week, they competed for the first time in exactly one month with a trip to Bates College, sweeping the No. 21 Bobcats, 9-0. Harold Castiaux, Chaitanya Shah, Adam Goad, Ryan Chen and Justin Ghaeli have all competed in the top nine of the last two victories.
SERIES HISTORY
Columbia will be hoping for its first win in program history over Trinity, entering the weekend 0-9 all-time against the Bantams. Two of the last three matches were extremely close with Trinity squeaking out 5-4 victories. The last time the two sides met, the Lions were defeated at home, 8-1.
Sunday's matchup against Yale will be the 12th between the two programs. Columbia holds a 6-5 edge all-time but will be looking to defeat the Bulldogs for the first time in its last three tries. Columbia's last win came in the 2019 regular season, sweeping Yale 9-0 in New York.
THE OPPONENTS
Trinity (5-0) has won three matches by scores of 9-0 and its two others by scores of 8-1, but Columbia will represent the highest ranked opponent the Bantams of have played this season. None of Trinity's five wins so far have come against a top 10 team. Trinity's highest ranked win of the season came in its season over, 9-0, over No. 15 MIT.
Yale (4-0) has three wins over teams inside the top 12 of the CSA Team Rankings, which include Virginia, Drexel and Western Ontario. After starting the year with three wins by Nov. 18, the Bulldogs didn't compete again until this past Sunday, when they handed No. 9 Drexel a 7-2 loss in New Haven.
