TEMPORARY NO-SPECTATOR POLICY
Due to the substantial increase in the number of COVID-19 cases being reported in New York City, New York State, and the Columbia University campus community, Columbia University is implementing a temporary no-spectator attendance policy for its home athletics events through January 18. Attendance to all events shall be limited to participating players, coaches, and officials, as well as athletics administrators and essential personnel required to conduct an NCAA Division I contest.
THE LATEST
Columbia traveled up to Maine earlier this week and comfortably handled No. 16, Bates, 9-0. It was the Lions' first match in a month and they showed no trouble shaking off any rust. Senior captain Habiba Mohamed led the team from the No. 1 position and improved her unbeaten dual record to 4-0 with a 12-10, 11-3, 11-1 victory. Meanwhile, junior Cindy Cao won in her season debut and Julia Fink earned her first collegiate top-nine win with an 11-7, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10 decision at the No. 9 spot.
RED HOT
Columbia enters the weekend on a four-match winning streak and is one win shy of tying its five-match streak from 2019-20. The team's first two wins on its current winning streak came in 5-4 nail biters against Drexel and Cornell. They then defeated Williams on the road, 6-3, before sweeping Bates earlier this week.
SERIES HISTORY
Columbia will be looking to put an end to an 0-7 series history against Trinity. They were able to win two points the last time they met in 2019-20 as Jui Kalgutkar won at the No. 4 and Jane Pincus took a point at the No. 9. That year also saw the Lions earn their first win in program history over Yale, defeating the Bulldogs, 5-4. Current Lions Habiba Mohamed, Erica McGillicuddy, Bunny Fox, Ellie McVeigh and Cindy Cao all competed in the victory.
THE OPPONENTS
Trinity has won all three of its matches so far this season by 9-0 score lines, but the highest ranked opponent they played was No. 16 Bates. Due to their Jan. 8 match against Drexel getting postponed and their Jan. 9 match against Stanford getting canceled, the Bants have not competed since their Dec. 5 victory over Bowdoin.
