LAST TIME OUT: Columbia's last weekend was a busy one, that begun in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and ended in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Lions dropped both match over the weekend, but took No. 17 Lehigh to the wire, falling 20-16, before making a solid showing at No. 4 Oklahoma State in a 35-6 loss.
The weekend began with a five-five split at Lehigh that saw No. 18 Joe Manchio (125), No. 18 Matt Kazimir (141), Danny Fongaro (149), No. 21 Joshua Ogunsanya (165) and Nick Fine (174) all get wins at Lehigh. Manchio and Ogunsanya's wins were over ranked opponents in the strong showing by the Lions, but unable to get the bonus points they needed, helped Lehigh stay in and eventually win the match, 20-16.
After a quick change of scheduling, after a COVID situation at West Virginia cancelled the scheduled tri-meet, Columbia visited No. 4 Oklahoma State on Jan. 16. The Lions battled hard in the match, facing a lineup with ranked opponents at nine out of 10 weight classes, but in the end Columbia dropped the match, 35-6.
In the match, Kazimir and Ogunsanya got wins, with Kazimir winning via decision, 6-1, over No. 18 Carter Young and Ogunsanya getting a 3-2 decision win over Jalin Harper.
