Lions get set to take on CSA’s top-ranked team
NEW YORK — The sixth-ranked Columbia men's squash team (7-4, 1-3 Ivy) will compete on Friday against No. 1 Penn (13-0, 3-0 Ivy). The match will be contested at the SL Green StreetSquash Center and is set to begin at 4 p.m. ET.

THE LATEST
The Lions picked up their first Ivy League win of the season last weekend, defeating No. 11 Dartmouth, 7-2. Senior Velavan Senthilkumar won his match on the top court, which helped Columbia jump out to a 3-0 lead. Senior Justin Ghaeli battled back from two games down to clinch the match in style, defeating David Rubin at the No. 9 position, 6-11, 5-11, 11-2, 11-5, 11-8.
Sunday's victory over Dartmouth was a nice bounce-back performance after the Lions fell the day prior at No. 2 Harvard, 8-1. Sophomore Rutvik Rau improved to 4-2 on the season with a three-game sweep playing at the No. 7 position.
ABOUT PENN
The top-ranked Quakers head into Friday's match with an unbeaten 13-0 record, including three wins against Ivy League competition. Penn has played 10 of its 13 matches at home but will be on the road for its third straight contest. They started the road swing at No. 4 Trinity and No. 5 Yale last weekend, defeating both teams by scores of 7-2.
The Lions are 6-5 all-time against Penn, which includes three straight victories from 2017-19. The Quakers got the better of it the last time the two sides met in February of 2020, winning by a score of 9-0. This will be the first match between the two teams contested at Columbia since 2019, when the Lions were victorious, 6-3.
