Mohamed remains perfect on her Senior Day

NEW YORK — Senior Habiba Mohamed kept her perfect 2021-22 record intact and the Columbia women's squash team honored its two seniors with a victory, 7-2, over No. 9 Penn on Friday at the SL Green StreetSquash Center.

Mohamed and Pranjali Sharma were recognized during the pre-match introductions as Columbia's two seniors. Mohamed took the court in the No. 3 match and defeated Yoshna Singh handily, 11-2, 11-5, 11-6, as Columbia (7-3, 4-1 Ivy) ran away with a victory.

The Lions continued to dominate the top three matches. Along with Mohamed's win, her sister, Farida Mohamed, swept Penn's (7-6, 1-3 Ivy) Ashley Manning, 11-5, 11-7, 11-4, to improve to 7-1 on the year, including 5-1 when playing in the No. 1 match. Simmi Chan also picked up a quick win in the No. 2 match over Jamila Tamer, 11-4, 11-3, 11-5.

Those victories boosted the rest of the lineup. Elizabeth Lentz earned an early point from the No. 9 match with a four-game victory and Bunny Fox clinched the team result with a three-game win over Emma Carter. Columbia would also go on to see Erica McGillicuddy earn a three-game sweep at the No. 5, as well as Ellie McVeigh win in four games from the No. 6 slot.

With the win, Columbia kept its hopes for its first Ivy title in program history alive. The Lions would earn a share of the title should Harvard fall to Yale and Columbia defeat No. 3 Princeton (7-2, 3-1 Ivy) on Sunday. Sunday's match against the Tigers is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
