CROSS COUNTRY
Columbia cross country will run for the final time ahead of the Ivy League Cross Country Heps (Oct. 28), when the squad splits to head to the Penn State National Open and the IC4A/ECAC Cross Country Championships (Van Cortlandt Park). The ICA4A/ECAC Championships get started with the women's 6K at 9:30 a.m., while the Penn State National Open will get started with a women's 6K at 10:30 a.m. Columbia is coming off a weekend where they posted four top-10 finishes at the Mets XC Championships (Oct. 7). Matt Gatune (21:11.8/fifth) and Ian Noble (21:52.2/seventh) paced the men in the 8K and Kaitlynn Wolfe (20:05.8/sixth) and Kate Kuwahara (20:18.5/ninth) led the women in the 6K.
FIELD HOCKEY
Columbia field hockey (3-8, 1-2) is back on the road this weekend, traveling to New Haven to battle Yale (6-6, 1-2) on Friday at 6 p.m. For the Lions, the matchup is the first night game of the season. Columbia is coming off a 1-1 weekend, picking up an overtime win against Brown on Saturday before falling to Monmouth a day later. The Lions bring two top-10 Ivy League scorers to New Haven in Maya Walker and MK Myklebust. Katie Wimmer still sits atop the conference in saves with 83. Yale leads the all-time series 18-6. A Lions win would be the first against the Bulldogs since 2017.
FOOTBALL
Football (3-1, 0-1) makes its first appearance at Penn (4-0, 1-0) since 2018 when the teams meet up at Franklin Field Saturday. Both teams are coming off wins last weekend to close their non-conference slates. Columbia topped Wagner, 28-7, after Ryan Young rushed for a career-high 117 yards with a touchdown. The Quakers beat Georgetown, 59-28, on the road last week. Head coach Al Bagnoli will meet his former team for the seventh time and is 3-3 against Penn in the schools' last six meetings.
