Swimming, wrestling in action this weekend
NEW YORK — Columbia men's and women's swimming and diving programs prepare for an Ivy League clash at Harvard, while the wrestling team will take on two nationally ranked opponents out of the Big Ten this weekend in our weekly edition of Lions on the Road.
Every week, GoColumbiaLions.com will be using "Lions on the Road" to preview that week's upcoming games and events happening off campus. Be sure to access each team's website on gameday to keep up with all of the action as it happens.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
The men's team will look to get off to a 5-0 start in dual meets for the first time since 2005-06 when they face Harvard Friday afternoon. Columbia won a pair of tightly contested meets against Princeton (155-145) last Friday and at Yale (151-149) Saturday. First-year Adam Wu won a combined six events in those competitions and set a Uris Pool record in the 200-butterfly with a time of 1:46.84. Jonathan Suckow continues to shine in diving and is undefeated in the one and three-meter events through two weekends of action. The Columbia women will also be in the pool at Cambridge Friday. Last Friday against Yale, senior Karen Liu set a pool record with a time of 1:59.15 in the 200-butterfly to continue her strong start to the season.
WRESTLING
The Lions return to the mat for a pair of road duals against two of the best from the Big Ten. During their opening tournament on Nov. 5, Columbia saw Joshua Ogunsanya (165), Nick Fine (174) and Jack Wehmeyer (Freshman 184) earn first-place finishes at the Southeast Open. A total of 32 competitors saw action in the one-day event.
