ORONO, Maine — First-years Avery Brown and Kenny Noland had career-nights, but the Columbia men's basketball team ran into a sharpshooting Maine squad and fell, 93-70, Friday night. Brown finished with 17 points to go with six assists and five boards, while Noland posted 16 on 6-of-8 shooting.
The Black Bears (3-1) shot 62.5 percent from the floor and 11-of-18 (61.1 percent) from 3-point range in the victory.
With the score tied at seven just under three minutes into the game, Maine used a 10-0 run to take a lead it would never relinquish. The deficit grew to 31-17 after a Peter Filipovity layup at the 7:40 marker and the Black Bears took a 13-oint cushion into the locker room.
Noland trimmed the margin to 48-41 on a nice finish at the rim, but that would be as close as the Lions (1-4) would get.
Columbia performed well on the glass, outrebounding Maine 31-29, led Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa's career-high 10.
Kellen Tynes led the Black Bears, who had five score in double-figures with 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting.
Columbia will return to Schiller Court at Levien Gym to take on SUNY Maritime Sunday, November 20 at 1 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by
