Han Earns Spot at 2023 Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase

Columbia junior earns invite to pro-am style tournament in February

NEW YORK — Columbia junior Nathan Han has earned the right to compete and represent the Columbia men's golf program at the 2023 Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase, which will be held on Monday, Feb. 13, at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.

Han recently wrapped up an impressive and historic fall season, which included earning a top-10 finish in all four of his tournaments. His highlights included a runner-up at the Columbia Autumn Invite and earning co-medalist honors at the Georgetown Intercollegiate at Liberty National Golf Course.

Han's biggest moment came at the Columbia Autumn Invite, where he carded an NCAA-record-tying round of 60 at the Links Course of Lake Placid Club. His 11-under bogey-free round included 11 birdies and made him one of 17 golfers in NCAA history ever card a round of 60. Han is currently ranked No. 135 in all of NCAA Div. I men's golf as of the latest Golfstat Individual Player Rankings.

"We're incredibly excited to have Nathan take on Riviera and other great college golfers in the field," Director of Columbia Golf Rich Mueller said. "I know he's got a great chance to win."

Last season, then-first-year Wyatt McGovern became the first Columbia Lion and the first Ivy League representative at Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase.

The Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase is an opportunity for a collegiate golfer to play their way into The Genesis Invitational field while also allowing universities to compete for a $50,000 donation to support their golf program. First held in 2015, the Collegiate Showcase will be contested for the ninth time in 2023. The pro-am style event pairs a collegiate golfer with two of his institution's alumni and a PGA Tour pro to form a team. Each team plays a best-ball round against other teams. The low team earns a $50,000 donation back to the school's golf program. Additionally, the low collegiate golfer will receive an exemption into the 2023 Genesis Invitational and will round out the field of 120 players.

The 2023 Collegiate Showcase marks the ninth year of the annual event. Past team champions of the Collegiate Showcase include USC (2020), San Jose State (2019), Texas (2018 and 2016), Pepperdine (2017), and Oregon (2015). Individual collegiate champions who earned an exemption into The Genesis Invitational include Michael Brennan of Wake Forest (2022), Angus Flanagan of Minnesota (2021), Sean Yu of San Jose State (2020), Lukas Euler of Kentucky (2019), Scottie Scheffler of Texas (2018), Sahith Theegala of Pepperdine (2017), Charlie Danielson of Illinois (2016) and Will Zalatoris of Wake Forest (2015).

Other collegiate golf programs which have competed in the past include Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Pepperdine, San Jose State, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Wake Forest, Washington and Wyoming. PGA TOUR pros who have competed include Paul Casey, Luke Donald, Jim Furyk, Bill Haas, Charley Hoffman, J.B. Holmes, Beau Hossler, Jordan Spieth, Jimmy Walker and more.
