
Men's Basketball Set for Trips to Providence and Marist

The Lions play twice in the next three days to wrap up their road swing.
NEW YORK - Columbia men's basketball will make a pair of trips, first to Providence on Saturday, November 26, for a 4 p.m. contest, followed by a visit to Poughkeepsie to take on Marist on Monday, November 28 at 7 p.m. The Lions (2-5) and Friars (4-2) will face off on FS2, while Monday night's game against the Red Foxes (1-4) can be seen on ESPN+.
OPENING TIP-OFF
• Columbia dropped an 81-79 heartbreaker at Binghamton Wednesday afternoon. The Lions led by six with 19 seconds remaining before a furious comeback by the Bearcats.
• First-year Blair Thompson had a career-high 22 points, going 5-of-9 from downtown to go with seven rebounds.
• Columbia will wrap up a three-game road swing Monday and then begins a four-game homestand from Dec. 3-9 with contests against New Hampshire, Sarah Lawrence, UMBC and Fairleigh Dickinson.

PROVIDENCE'S STATUS
The Friars got back on track Wednesday, topping Merrimack, 71-57, after a pair of losses against Miami and Saint Louis at the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament. Providence has five players averaging in double-figures, led by Bryce Hopkins at 15.5 PPG. Hopkins also leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 8.5 per game.
INSIDE THE SERIES - PROVIDENCE
Columbia is 0-3 all-time against Providence and have not faced off since an 81-55 Friars win in 2006. Each matchup in the series has taken place in Rhode Island.
COLUMBIA AGAINST THE BIG EAST
Columbia is 27-47 against teams currently in the BIG EAST. The Lions have not played a BIG EAST opponent since Nov. 20, 2019, an 82-63 loss at St. John's. The Lions last win against a team in the conference came when they knocked off Villanova on the road, 75-57, on Nov. 20, 2012.
MARIST'S STATUS
The Red Foxes have dropped four-straight after a season-opening win over American. Marist also plays on the road on Saturday when it faces Bucknell. Patrick Gardner is averaging 17.0 points and 7.6 rebounds to lead the squad.
INSIDE THE SERIES - MARIST
Columbia is 2-7 all-time against Marist. Last season, the Red Foxes used a strong-shooting first half to take an early lead and held off a series of comeback attempts to earn an 82-67 victory at Levien Gym.
COLUMBIA AGAINST THE MAAC
Columbia holds a 25-28 record against teams currently in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Lions most common opponent is Manhattan, who they have faced 24 times (15-9). Columbia's last win against a MAAC foe was its win over Marist in December 2019.
