
Keith C. Kambourian Named Director of New Tennis Center

Kambourian will be responsible for all operations, which includes oversight of Varsity sports
NEW YORK – Columbia University Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Peter Pilling announced today that Keith C. Kambourian has been named the Director of the new Columbia Tennis Center under construction at the Baker Athletics Complex. Kambourian will be responsible for all operations of the Tennis Center which includes management of onsite scheduling for Varsity sports, the Columbia community, NYC tennis community, special events and community clinics, and support for the facility and all members.
"The construction and opening of the new Tennis Center at the Baker Athletics Complex is an important milestone for Columbia Athletics and our relationship with the New York tennis community." Pilling said. "Having such a well-respected tennis and business professional oversee our new building will pay tremendous dividends for our varsity teams, tennis center members and many others."
A two-time USTA Long Island Professional of the Year, and one of New York's most successful junior coaches for three decades, Kambourian most recently served as the Program Director of the Lacoste Junior Tennis Academy at the City Parks Foundation. He has been involved with City Parks Lacoste Junior Tennis Academy since 2002 as a volunteer, patron, advisor and at his most recent role as the director. In 2021, City Parks honored Kambourian at the US Open Tennis Championships with the Vitas Gerulaitis Community Service Award for his tenured commitment to the organization.
For 25 years, Kambourian was the co-owner and director of the Bethpage Tennis Center on Long Island, where he helped develop hundreds of nationally ranked players, including several junior Wimbledon competitors. He is a past recipient of the George Seewagen Award, given to a USTA Eastern teaching professional who exemplifies excellence in competition, sportsmanship and love of the game.
"We are looking forward to working alongside Keith to provide state-of-the-art training, recovery, and learning spaces for our current players and many future generations of Columbia Lions," Head Coach of Women's Tennis, Ilene Weintraub '02CC said. "Keith will be an integral part of the success of our Columbia tennis programs."
Kambourian was a top national junior player who received a full scholarship to Duke University where he was the No.1 player and Captain during his senior year.
"Keith is a special person who not only possesses a wealth of tennis knowledge, but also understands at the highest level how to cultivate and nurture relationships," Bidyut K. Goswami Head Coach Men's Tennis and Director of Tennis Operations, Howard Endelman '87CC said. "His impeccable character and warm personality shine brightly. Keith's presence will make Columbia's groundbreaking new facility even better."
The new Columbia Tennis Center at the Baker Athletics Complex is currently under construction on the shores of Spuyten Duyvil at 218th Street and Indian Hill Road. Featuring 12 state of the art tennis courts (6 indoor, 6 outdoor) it is expected to open during the 2023 spring semester, in time for the 2023 Ivy League Men's and Women's Tennis seasons.
