LAST TIME OUT: Columbia last took to the mat on Feb. 11 in the final pair of home duals in a Senior Night sendoff doubleheader, where the Lions knocked off a pair of Ivy League foes with a 27-3 win over Harvard and a 37-0 victory over Brown. The pair of wins snapped a two-dual streak and gave the Lions their first two Ivy League dual wins of the season.
Senior Brian Bonino celebrated the night, where Columbia honored seniors Bonino, Joe Franzese, Spencer Good and Sam Webster, with a pair of wins at 184 pounds to even his season record out at 8-8. He was joined by Sam Wustefeld (197), Danny Conley (285), No. 31 Joe Manchio (125), No. 24 Angelo Rini (133), Danny Fongaro (149), Andrew Garr (157) and Nick Fine (174) who all collected a pair of wins on the night.
Columbia also began the night by honoring the late Bob Dickstein '62CC, who passed away in 2020. Bob was a member of the 1961 Ivy League Championship team; a big supporter of the program and his memory is honored every year at the annual banquet with the awarding of the Bob Dickstein Memorial Award.
RANKED LION WINS: Seven Lions have earned themselves at least one win over a ranked opponent so far this season.
125 | Joe Manchio
The highest ranked Lion in both polls is Columbia's 141-pounder, Matt Kazimir (17-4), who comes in at No. 9 in the RPI Index and No. 16 in the Coaches' Rank. At 165 pounds, Joshua Ogunsanya (15-5) comes in at No. 11 in the RPI Index and No. 19 in the Coaches' Rank.
Columbia's final grappler to hold rankings in both polls is Nick Fine (18-11), who at 174 pounds won both his bouts over the weekend and comes into the week ranked No. 19 in the RPI Index and No. 33 in the Coaches' Rank.
Three other Lions earned nods in at least one of the polls, led by Joe Manchio (11-8) who at 125 pounds comes in at No. 25 in the Coaches' Rank. While in the RPI Index, Angelo Rini (18-6) and Andrew Garr (11-9) each earned nods at 133 pounds and 157 pounds respectively, with Rini coming in at No. 11 and Garr sitting at No. 23.
RANKED LIONS: Columbia enters the weekend with six ranked nationally by either FloWrestling or Intermat.
Ogunsanya's strong season continues as he has cracked the 165-pound top-20 in both rankings, coming in at No. 19 in Intermat's rankings, No. 20 in Flo's. At 141 pounds, Kazimir comes into the weekend ranked No. 20 by Intermat and No. 21 by Flowrestling.

PIN PARTY: During Columbia's domination of LIU, the Lions stuck five Sharks on the way to the win. The five pins were the most for the Lions since 2006, where they collected six pins against Wagner in a 53-3 win.
The fastest pin came from Ogunsanya who stuck Blake Bahna at 2:37 and right behind him was Michael Baker, who much like Ogunsanya, didn't let his match get out of the first round sticking Karl Bouyer at 2:42. Rini got his pin at 3:17, while Fine ended his match at 4:11 and Bonino's win via fall came at 4:45.
CAPTAINS OF THREE: At the start of the season, at Columbia's outdoor practice during Columbia Football's Homecoming game on Oct. 16, 2021, Andrew F. Barth Head Coach of Wrestling Zach Tanelli announced that Kazimir and Manchio will be joined by Bonino as the 142nd, 143rd and 144th Lions to be named team captains for the 2021-22 season.
"All three bring unique elements to the program that consistently elevate the men and women of this team to be better versions of themselves," said Tanelli. "They deserve to have a title associated with their leadership."
MARYLAND MATCHUP: For the first time since 2016, and the fifth time overall, Columbia and Maryland will meet on the mat. The Terrapins hold an 4-0 advantage of the Lions, and this meeting will be the first time the Lions visit College Park, Maryland as the last time these two met it was on the Madison Square Garden floor.
Maryland will enter Friday's dual with an 5-12 record and an 0-8 record in the BIG10. Maryland is currently ridding a nine-dual losing streak, with their last win coming against Chattanooga (24-14) on Jan. 14. So far this season, the Terrapins have faced a pair of EIWA opponents, beating both Drexel and Navy in December of 2021.
The Terrapins bring a pair of ranked grapplers into the dual, as at 184 pounds Kyle Cochran holds a No. 10 ranking and is 20-6. While at 197 pounds, Jaron Smith comes in at 15-9 and carries the No. 29 ranking in the country.
RUTGERS MATCHUP: Columbia will meet its old EIWA foe, No. 14 Rutgers, for the 54th time and first since they at Madison Square Garden in 2016. This will be only the second meeting since Rutgers left the EIWA and the first time the Lions visit Piscataway, New Jersey since 2013. A win from the Lions will be the first since 1983 and a win would be the first at Rutgers since 1982.
The No. 14 team in the nation, Rutgers enters the weekend at 14-5 (3-5 BIG10) and will face No. 20 Princeton on Friday, Feb. 18 at home before welcoming the Lions on Saturday, Feb. 19. Over their last three duals, the Scarlet Knights have won two out of three, with their only loss coming in a close bout against then-ranked No. 7 Ohio State on Feb. 6. And in their last dual, the Scarlet Knights beat Maryland on Feb. 12.
Several Rutgers grapplers carry rankings into the weekend, led by No. 3 Sebastian Rivera, who sits at 21-0 and the four-time All-American and two-time BIG10 Champion highlights the Rutgers lineup. Joining Rivera in the rankings is No. 11 Greg Bulsak (197), No. 11 John Poznanski (184), No. 15 Michael VanBrill (149), No. 19 Joseph Olivieri (133) and No. 27 Dylan Shawver (125).
