Lions will take on No. 8 Penn in Consolation Draw Saturday
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Fourth-seeded Columbia suffered a narrow, 5-4, defeat to No. 5 Yale in the quarterfinals of the 2022 College Squash Association Women's Team National Championships on Friday. The championships are being held at Harvard's Murr Center.
Columbia's All-Ivy trio of Farida Mohamed, Simmi Chan and Habiba Mohamed were all victorious in the top three spots in the lineup. Farida Mohamed and Chan each won in three games, while Habiba Mohamed rallied back from dropping her first two games for a five-game victory over Christy Tin Yan Lau, keeping Mohamed undefeated on the season.
The Lions were also victorious at the No. 6 spot with Sarah Cao defeating Brianna Jefferson, 5-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-5, 11-3.
Unfortunately, Columbia wasn't able to earn a fifth point to advance to the semifinals. The Lions fell in three games in the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 7 matches. In the No. 9 spot, Yale's Nina Mital avenged her loss to Columbia's Elizabeth Lentz in four games. Lindsay Westerfield took out Bunny Fox at the No. 8 spot.
Columbia now heads to the consolation draw, where they'll face No. 8 Penn on Saturday. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m. ET.
