No. 63 Lions Defeat Brown 4-2

Akanksha Bhan, Anna Zhang, Jennifer Kerr and Melissa Sakar claim singles wins for Columbia.
HARRISON, N.Y.—The No. 63 ranked Columbia Women's Tennis team fought back from a 1-0 deficit with four singles matches in claiming a 4-2 victory over Brown Saturday at LifeTime Westchester. With the win, Columbia improves to 11-10 overall on the year and earns its first Ivy League victory (1-3). Brown drops to 6-13 overall and 0-4 in Ivy League play.
Brown went up 1-0 as it won two doubles matches. Britany Lau and Addison Ahlstrom defeated Columbia's Akanksha Bhan and Melissa Sakar 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, then Sophia Reddy and Lindsey Hofflander defeated Anna Zhang and Winta Tewolde 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.
But the Lions came charging back as they won four of the first five singles matches to clinch the win. The Lions won at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 singles. Bhan claimed a 6-3, 7-6 decision at No .1 over Lau, Zhang defeated Reddy 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, Jennifer Kerr won a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 3 singles over Ali Benedetto, and Sakar defeated Ahlstrom 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4.
Brown's Olivia Mariotti was the lone Bear to win a singles match as she won a 6-0, 1-6, 6-3 decision at No. 6 singles over Columbia's Michelle Xu.
Columbia takes on No. 59 ranked Yale on Sunday at 1 p.m. at LifeTime Westchester.
