NEW YORK - Two former Columbia Student-athletes, the Hon. Rolando T. Acosta '79CC '82LAW and Thomas W. Cornacchia '85CC, were named winners of the Columbia University Alumni Medal on Wednesday, May 18, for their service to the University through the years. The awards were presented by the Columbia Alumni Association in Low Memorial Library prior to the Columbia University Commencement Exercises of its 268th Academic Year.
Acosta, Presiding Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department, has served as a Trustee of Columbia University since 2011. A four-time All-Ivy League pitcher for the Columbia baseball team, he was inducted into the Columbia University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008.
Cornacchia, a former executive at Goldman Sachs, was a four-year member of the Heavyweight Crew at Columbia. A member of the Columbia College Board of Visitors for 13 years, including 3 years as Chair, Cornacchia is also an active member of the Kings Crown Rowing Association.
Both Acosta and Cornacchia are members of the Columbia Athletics Leadership Committee, which provides financial and advisory support to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education.
Columbia Alumni Medalists are recognized for building Columbia's community - whether regionally, online, in specific Schools, or in cross-campus initiatives, and honored at University Commencement and at the Alumni Medalists Gala during Columbia Alumni Leaders Weekend.
