Lindsey Yu recorded Columbia field hockey's first-ever goal against #10 Syracuse in a 6-2 loss to the Orange in Upstate New York. First-year
MK Myklebust was credited with the assist after inserting on a penalty corner drawn by junior captain
Maya Walker in the third quarter (40:28).
Walker doubled the Lions' total in the fourth quarter, scoring off yet another penalty quarter (50:06) with an insert by
Anabelle Brodeur.
Syracuse forced the Lions onto their heels, shooting to a 3-0 first-quarter lead. Charlotte de Vries struck first (9:34) before teammate Lieke Leeggangers doubled the Orange's lead moments later (10:05).
Quirine Comans recorded Syracuse's third (12:13) and fourth goal (33:42). The Orange's remaining goals were scored by Willemijn Boogert (47:58) and Quirine Comans (50:39) in the final quarter.
In goal, sophomore
Katie Wimmer made nine saves on 25 shots faced.
The Lions will remain on the road, facing Old Dominion at 1:00 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 9) in Norfolk, Virginia.
