
No. 21 Men’s Tennis Drops Dual Match to No. 13 Harvard

Columbia starts the spring season 0-1
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Columbia won the doubles point to lead early, but a strong finish in singles for Harvard doomed the Lions in a 4-2 loss to the Crimson on Saturday morning at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Lions start the spring dual season 0-1 with the loss. Columbia will wrap up the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Sunday in the consolation match of the North Carolina regional.
The duo of Max Westphal and Michael Zheng struck first for the Lions as they defeated Daniel Milavsky and Valdemar Pape at the No. 1 doubles, 6-4. Harvard answered back at the No. 3 doubles as the team of Steven Sun and Ronan Jachuck took a 6-4 win over Nicolas Kotzen and Sachin Palta. The Lions secured the doubles point as Roko Horvat and Theo Winegar fought through a tiebreaker to win an exciting matchup at the No. 2 spot against Harris Walker and Von Der Schulenburg, 7-6(11-9)
Columbia would head into singles play with the 1-0 advantage before Harvard fired back with three-straight singles wins to take a 3-1 lead. Alan Yim got singles action started for the Crimson with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Nicolas Kotzen at the No. 6 singles.
Harvard's Sun posted the second singles win of the afternoon as he defeated Ishaan Ravichander, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot. No. 22 Von Der Schulenburg secured the third singles win of the day for Harvard in a three-set 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win over No. 11 Zheng at the No. 1 singles.
Trailing 3-1, No. 64 Westphal won the only singles match of the day for the Lions to briefly trim the Harvard lead. Westphal earned a three-set win against Milavsky, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.
No. 46 Walker secured the win for Harvard as he defeated No. 49 Alex Kotzen, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles.

The Lions will wrap up the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a consolation match against Oklahoma State on Sunday. First serve is slated for 11 a.m. in Chapel Hill.
