NEW YORK — Columbia Athletics released its most recent version of its "All-31 Sport" Photo earlier today on its social media channels. The photograph, featuring student-athletes from every Columbia varsity team, was taken with the iconic backdrop of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts on October 25.
The photograph, the sixth in a series which began in 2015, was taken by Michael F. McLaughlin and Mark Smith and were edited by Carlisle Stockton of Stockton Photo, Inc.
"The All-31 Team Photo is a special opportunity for us to salute our student-athletes and the incredible opportunities that they have to study and compete in one of the greatest cities in the world," says Peter Pilling, Columbia's Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education. "This year's photoshoot at Lincoln Center exemplifies the concept of 'ONLY HERE,' Columbia Athletics' identity as the only Ivy League school in New York City."
The shot features Columbia student-athletes standing in front of the Revson Fountain with the Metropolitan Opera House David Geffen Hall and the Vivian Beaumont Theater in the background. Located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Lincoln Center was developed in the 1960s thanks to the efforts of John Rockefeller III. Lincoln Center houses internationally renowned performing arts organizations including the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and the Juilliard School.
"The selection of Josie Robertson Plaza at Lincoln Center as the centerpiece of our 2023-24 'All-31' varsity sports photo is a reminder of Columbia's unique proposition as the only NCAA Division I athletics program located on the island of Manhattan," notes Alex Oberweger '92CC '01BUS, Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Communications. "Columbia Athletics is grateful for the assistance of the staff of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, in particular Erica Wolff, Rachel Winkler, Sammy Garcia, Kevin Damoah and Joohyun Lee in making this special photoshoot come to life for our student-athletes."
Previous photographs in the series have featured Columbia's campus locations Low Library (2015) and Revson Plaza (2021), across the river from the New York skyline in Hoboken, New Jersey (2016), the crossroads of the world, Times Square (2018) and Bethesda Terrace in Central Park (2022).
