ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Members of the Columbia men's and women's swim team made the trip to Maryland to compete in the 2023 ECAC Swim & Dive Championships, hosted by the Naval Academy which began today. The event rolls on tomorrow and will conclude on Sunday after two more full days of prelims and finals.
The men's team currently sits in third place with a score of 127. The Lions trail Princeton in second place (140) and Navy in first place (255).
The women's team resides in fourth place with a score of 112. The Lady Lions trail Penn in third place (114), Bucknell in second place (150), and Navy in first place (164).
Tonight, Columbia men and women competed in the 1-meter dive, 200-free relay, 500-free, 200-IM, 50-free, and 400-medley relays.
The highlight of the night came in the men's 1-meter dive, when
Casey Fellows was crowned ECAC Champion with a score of 342.20.
Additionally on the men's side, Sam Eckert won a silver medal in the 50-free with a time of 20.54. Other top-eight finishes included
Ike Shirakata who took sixth in the 200-IM (1:50.39) and
Hunter Kroll who finished eighth in the 500-free (4:34.29). Meanwhile, both of the men's relay team's finished top-eight, led by a fourth place finish from the 200-free relay squad.
The highlights on the women's side came in the 500-free, when two Lions finished within the top-eight.
Theadora Leimone led the way with a fifth place finish and time of 4:59.49.
Olivia Kim was right behind her in seventh (5:03.13). Both of Columbia's relay squads also placed top-eight, paced by the 200-free relay team that took fourth place with a time of 1:36.51.
Competition resumes tomorrow at 11 a.m. Finals are set for 6 p.m. Live results can be found on the Meet Mobile app.
