THE FACILITY
Located on the second floor of the current Dodge Fitness Center, Columbia’s Percy Uris Natatorium or commonly known as “Uris Pool” is home to Columbia’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams.
With a seating capacity of 300-plus, Percy Uris Natatorium features an eight-lane 25-yard swimming pool with two diving boards at the 3-meter and 1-meter levels.
Percy Uris Natatorium opened in December 1974 as part of the newly-renovated Marcellus Hartley Dodge Fitness Center.
Named after Percy Uris ‘20 (1899-1971), an American real estate entrepreneur and philanthropist who co-founded Uris Buildings Corporation with his brother. The duo developed residential real estate and moved to commercial real estate after World War II. The company claimed to be the largest private developers in New York City. Uris, who was a Columbia University board of trustees member from 1960-71, donated generously through the years to Columbia University.
The Dodge Physical Fitness Center is located at Broadway and West 119th Street. However, the building cannot be entered from 119th Street; it can only be entered from the campus level, accessible through the 116th Street gates.
