OXFORD, Miss. – Just about everything went right for the No. 19 Lions on Friday night at the Galtney Tennis Center as Columbia captured the doubles point and proceeded to win five of the six singles matches to claim a dominating 6-1 win over Ole Miss. Columbia is now 2-1 to start the spring.
The
Max Westphal and
Nicolas Kotzen duo posted the first win of doubles play for the Lions with a 6-3 victory against Nikola Slavic and Lukas Engelardt at the No. 1 spot. Isac Stromberg and Noah Schlagenhauf answered by evening the doubles score with a 7-5 win over
Alex Kotzen and
Michael Zheng at the No. 3 doubles.
Looking to secure the doubles point for the Lions,
Roko Horvat and
Theo Winegar battled to defeate Simon Junk and J. Hallquist Lithen, 6-4 at the No. 2 doubles to give Columbia the 1-0 lead to start the match.
Henry Ruger worked quick to win the first singles match of the night for Columbia. Ruger posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Stromberg at the No. 6 singles to put the Lions up, 2-0.
Hugo Hashimoto notched the next Columbia win with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Engelhardt at the No. 4 spot.
Nicolas Kotzen clinched the Columbia win at the No. 5 singles as he defeated Schlagenhauf in two sets, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
With the win clinched, No. 33 Horvat completed a two-set victory over Junk, 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.
Alex Kotzen notched the sixth team point of the match with a 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-3) win over No. 82 Lithen at the No. 2 singles.
Ole Miss' No. 99 Slavic won the only match of the night for the Rebels at the No. 1 singles. He defeated No. 11 Zheng in a tight 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2) win.
