Men's Tennis Garret Sulak

No. 19 Lions Roll Past Alabama, 7-0

Columbia improves to 3-1 overall.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 19 men's tennis team did not lose a match on Sunday afternoon at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility as the Lions blanked Alabama in a dominating 7-0 win.
 
Columbia improves to 3-1 overall in dual matches with the win. The Lions handed Alabama its first loss of the spring as the Crimson Tide dropped to 5-1.
 
The duo of Michael Zheng and Max Westphal earned the first Columbia win of the day as they downed Enzo Aguiard and Filip Planinsek, 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles. Brothers Alex Kotzen and Nicolas Kotzen clinched the doubles point for the Lions as they defeated Joao Ferreira and Zach Foster, 7-6 (7-5) at the No. 3 spot. Roko Horvat and Theo Wingear played at the No. 2 doubles, but the match went unfinished.
 
The Lions did not lose any of the momentum after capturing the doubles point as Columbia won all six singles matches.
 
No. 64 Westphal won the first singles match of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Matias Ponce De Leon at the No. 4 singles. Winegar followed that up with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 6 spot. Henry Ruger clinched the match for the Lions as he posted a 6-2, 6-4 win against German Samofalov at the No. 5 singles.
 
No. 49 Alex Kotzen saw wins in doubles and singles action as he earned a 7-5, 6-0 win against No. 96 Roan Jones at the No. 3 spot. No. 33 Horvat captured a 6-4, 7-5 victory over No. 35 Aguiard at the No. 2 singles. No. 11 Zheng finished off the sweep with a three-set 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Planinsek at the No. 1 spot.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Lions return to New York City to host their first home match of the season on Saturday. Columbia will welcome No. 10 Tennessee to the city for a ranked matchup. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
