
Women’s Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision to Florida International

MIAMI – No. 35 Florida International's Kamil Umarova used a three-set 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory to clinch the match win for the Panthers on Monday afternoon.
FIU got the match started by clinching the doubles point to go ahead, 1-0. The Columbia duo of Rachele Rimondini and Shivani Amineni defeated the No. 56 team of Yasmine Kabbaj and Oyinlomo Quadre in the No. 2 doubles, 6-3. The Panthers then secured back-to-back doubles wins to take the doubles point.
The No. 62 duo of Khairutdinova and Kamila Umarova took a 6-3 win over Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang at the No. 1 spot. Salma Loudili and Katerina Mandelikova then posted a 7-5 win against Winta Tewolde and Michelle Xu to clinch the doubles point.
The Panthers extended their lead heading into singles play as Mandelikova took a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 5 singles over Xu. Quadre then defeated Wang in a 6-3, 6-1 match at the No. 3 singles to give FIU a 3-0 lead.
Columbia responded back with three-straight singles wins to tie the match score, 3-3. Zhang earned the first win of the day for the Lions in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Kabbaj in the No. 1 singles. Clarine Lerby posted a 7-6, 6-1 win against Salma Loudili in the No. 6 spot. Julia Haynes then took a 6-4, 6-4 win over Khairutdinova at the No. 2 spot.
The match came down to the No. 4 singles where Tewolde faced Umarova. Umarova prevailed with a three-set win to clinch the win for the Panthers.

The Lions wrap up the Florida trip with a match at Florida Atlantic on Friday. First serve is set for 10 a.m. in Boca Raton.
