
No. 11 Lions Take Care of No. 27 California

Columbia notches ninth-straight win.
BERKELEY, Calif. – For the third-straight match, first-year Nicolas Kotzen clinched the team win for the No. 11 Lions. With the win at No. 27 California, the Lions are winners of nine-straight since losing the season opener.
Cal took the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The Cal duo of Siddhant Banthia and Carl Emil Overbeck defeated Max Westphal and Michael Zheng in the No. 1 spot, 6-4. The No. 54 team of Ryder Jackson and Lucas Magnaudet then took a 6-4 win over Nicolas Kotzen and Theo Winegar at the No. 2 spot.
The Golden Bears extended the lead to 2-0 to get singles play started as No. 94 Jackson posted a 6-4, 6-0 win against Alex Kotzen in the No. 2 singles.
Columbia fired back with four-straight singles wins to comeback and complete the win. No. 16 Zheng captured the first singles win of the afternoon as he made quick work of No. 30 Yuta Kikuchi in the No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4. No. 75 Westphal followed that up with a three-set, 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-1 win over Philip Hjorth at the No. 5 spot.
Hugo Hashimoto secured the third singles win to put the Lions in the lead as he finished off a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win against Banthia at the No. 4 singles. With eyes on the No. 3 and No. 6 singles, Nicolas Kotzen fought to earn a thrilling three-set victory over Magnaudet, 1-6, 7-6(3), 6-3 at the No. 6 singles to clinch the Columbia win.
